What is an IoT Platform
AVM Cloud IoT Platform is a bundle of several distinct services together to provide the user a complete solution addressing business IoT requirement. The bundle consist of components such as data collection, storage and database, and visualization.
How can customers benefit from IoT Platform
Traditionally, a customer will work with a IoT sensor and devices vendor, to plan, design and deploy the devices to address business requirements. In most cases, the sensors and devices vendor do not provide the means to collect, store and analyse the data. This becomes a challenge for the customer to source for solution, acquire the technologies, train the personnel, and deploy the solution themselves.
AVM Cloud IoT Platform enables an integrated platform for customers to embark into IoT without the complexity that comes with it previously. AVM Cloud IoT encompasses an end-to-end solution from device to storage to analysis
The IoT Platform can be used to detect moisture and nutrient level of the soil for a plantation business, or GPS tracking device for a fleet management company, or traffic and environment monitoring for the city council.
AVM Cloud IoT Platform
AVM Cloud IoT platform include a highly capable data collection software. In a graphical user interface environment, the user can design a pipeline that can ingest or receive data from multiple sources, over a TCP/IP network, and the data can be in different data formats, for example, JSON, CSV, etc. There is also workflow within the tool to perform some processing on the data before output to another component. This tool can write the data into external storage, either in object storage, SQL database, or another application that can perform real-time analysis and other functions required by the business.
For AVM Cloud offering, the data will be written to the SQL database that is included in the platform. The capacity of the database can scale up as much as the customer requires. The data in the database can be scheduled to be backed up regularly or replicated to a DR site for business continuity reasons.
The final component within this product is the visualization piece. Customer business users, data analysts, and data administrators can access the tools via the web and perform common functions on the data collected in SQL.
The platform can also be subscribed to independently; for example, a customer can only subscribe to the data collector application without the bundle of SQL database and the visualization piece, or a customer can subscribe to the visualization application without the data collector or the SQL components. Customers can now subscribe to SQL databases independently without a data collector and visualization since 2020.

What is the typical use case?
There are numerous applications for this platform, for example, factories that need to collect data from their equipment in order to forecast maintenance windows, or public transportation companies that want to monitor their fleet of buses in order to ensure that they are operating at peak efficiency in terms of punctuality, fuel consumption, and safety, or for smart city applications. The city or the utility company can keep track of such usage in the city to detect leakage, fraud and capacity planning. Finally, it can be utilised in the health care industry to monitor patients at home by measuring, collecting, storing, and analysing their vital signs.
